Went to see the new tiger cub (Jillian), now 9 weeks old, photos taken through *plexiglass* windows at San Francisco Zoo. Visted a few other zoo residents too. April 18, 2013.
It was a beautiful day, tho' with very harsh, high-contrast lighting. Not ideal for photographs. Most of these are to show the size of the cub -- she's gotten much bigger in only the last weeks! -- and to show how independent she's become in about 2 weeks of getting her used to going outside, with the mom helping her to learn to do the stairs, and she is now constantly jumping and racing around. Really cute. Most of the photos had to be taken at maximum zoom of 500mm-equiv, as the tigers are really quite far from the front-view (hazy) pexiglass windows. Here's a view of the grotto from those windows. Here's a Flickr photography discussion about trying to get clear pictures thru' the zoo's pexiglass windows (no meshing in tiger exhibit). Next time, I'll use shutter priority (I forgot) and try an overcast day. Used the very small Canon SX260 because of its flexible built-in 20x zoom lens. But through pexiglass and not choosing shutter priority, the pics are not really up to snuff, but I hope you'll enjoy some of the content. To see the images that are 1024 pixels wide (or larger) for the thumbnails below, *click* on 'ORIGINAL' option below the first photo that comes up after you click on a thumbnail; otherwise, and that setting will stay for the session. It defaults to 800 pixels wide.
Click on any thumbnail to get a larger version. Then click on "Next" or "Previous" to see other ones. (A left- or right-arrow keypress also works if your screen is large enough.) |
