In 1556, after abdicating in favor of his son Philip II, the Emperor Charles V traveled from the Netherlands to retire to the Monastery of Yuste in Spain. The Last Journey of the Emperor refers to the route starting in the northern city of Laredo (Cantabria) and finishing in Yuste (Extremadura). This gallery covers a short stretch of 10 miles near the end of the route, from the village of Tornavacas to the Collado de las Yeguas from where one can overlook La Vera countryside where the Monastery of Yuste is located.
