Calapan & Puerto Galera

Another shot of the Puerto Galera region, on a different day. Both the city of Calapan and the Puerto Galera peninsula are silhouetted by the sun's reflection of the sea. Calapan lies on the point of land nearest to the aircraft and Puerto Galera is off in the distance. Verde Island is visible underneath the aircraft's stand-by compass.

For those interested: the aircraft (a Qantas Boeing 767) has been cleared by Manila Control to descend to 24,000 feet and is approaching 25,000 feet (you can just make out the altimeter at the very bottom centre of the picture, reading about 25,000-something feet). The aircraft's indicated airspeed (IAS) is 300 knots, which equals about 450 knots true airspeed (TAS) at this height, or about 900 kph. From here we are about 20 minutes from touching down in Manila.

The Captain was flying, I was working the radios and computers, and the camera....
