In April of 2006, just before attending the wedding of our good friends Vesna and Edwin Chock in Oahu, we stopped by Kauai to hike the Kalalau trail.
Alas, when we got there, the trail had officially been closed due to record flooding and mudslides. Undeterred, we ignored the yellow tape and went anyway. The trail was washed out in sections, and the weather was horrible (torrentional rain for 4/5 days of the trip). Also, we got hopelessly lost in the jungle at one point, and had to camp one night by an unmarked stream. Nevertheless, owing to the trail closure, there was only 1 other hiker at Kalalau beach aside from us, and we got in a couple of good days of R&R. We can only imagine how nice things are here when the weather's nice.
