Santa Catalina Island

Catalina is one of eight California Channel Islands.
The only town on the island is Avalon, located 37 miles by ferry from Dana Point on the mainland.
The size of the island is 75 square miles/195 km2, and the population is 4,000.
Though inhabited as long as 7,000 years ago, it has only been inhabited constantly for about 100 years in recent history.
