24-JUN-2008 Walter O. Koenig

June 25

Beginnings: My first SLR Camera. In 1973 my high school in Jakarta, Indonesia offered photography for the first time.
I immediately signed up for the class and learned basic b&w darkroom techniques. My dad gave me this camera for my course work.
I became an avid photographer, but my output was limited due to the cost of film, chemicals and photographic paper.
As you can see from the dings and scratches this camera has seen a lot of use and was often a companion in my motorcycling days.

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, circa 1966 made for Japanese Market
Shutter 1 sec – 1/1000 sec - ASA range 20-1600 - Super Takumar Lens 50mm f/1.4

other sizes: small medium original auto

This was also my first camera even with the same lens . I bought it used back in 1977. However the shutter broke down and I bought a newer model Spotmatic II, which still works.

A beautiful machine!! I love my Spotmatic too, even though I've only had mine for about 6 months.

Good to see I'm not the only one keeping my first camera... Mine's a minolta xd7 (the lightmeter's way off now, but the rest is still OK).

I began with an automatic Kodak and after 4 house changes, I don´t know were is it now. Nostalgic and good b&w shot Walter -V-

Et oui... cette appareil photo était certainement beaucoup plus solide que nos appareils numériques.
J'ai moi même utilisé pendant plus de 20 ans un Pentax K1000.

This is also one of my early cameras, solidly build and takes great pictures.
Thanks for the nostalgia, Walter........V

nice shot of this classic model...I still have a very similar one from the same era...but the shutter seized up several decades ago...now it's part of the bric-a-brac in the living room...well worth preserving as a personal artifact...V
