Camera Problem

If you look at the EXIF info. you will see that the camera is overexposing like crazy. This should have been more like f/11 @ 250sec.
Even with these settings of 1/1600sec @ f/18 with exposure compensation of four stops, I had to darken the image significantly in Lightroom.
We tested the camera at a camera store belonging to a friend of mine, and came to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the camera.
I have contacted Nikon USA and am waiting to hear back. I will let you know how it goes. Luckily I have several back up cameras.

The image was taken at the corner of Park Blvd. and Monroe St. A new mural that will probably not last long.

Yikes! 1/6000 at f/18 PLUS 4 stops of underexposure!!! Oh dear, I hope the D500 isn't destined for the big Nikon Store in the Sky!

I hope you can get to the bottom of it. LR did a great job. V

Yikes, I'll be interested to hear what caused the problem. It's a great mural, and the photo is still quite nice. V

You did a nice job in Lightroom salvaging the over exposure Lightroom is a nice software.
Hope it something simple to repair and not too expensive.

Well recovered exposure, wonder if a factory reset would help, hope you can resolve this, Walter. I've had no issues so for with my D500 I bought in 2016. V

I guess all electronics can have issues at one time or another. Hope you get it resolved quickly.

That's disturbing when a camera has a problem even when you are equipped.

My original Fuji X100 overexposed because the aperture was not stopping down when the shutter button was pressed. The lens had to be replaced under warranty. Could it be that your lens is stuck on f/2.8 and failing to stop down?

seems a bizarre result for sure...perhaps the very small aperture was a factor...on my D7000, at ISO 160, settings (in manual) of f/11 at 1/1000 sec would have likely nailed this scene...keep us apprised of what you learn about the issue..
