Invasion

These are the eggs of the golden apple snail. This species is considered to be in the top 100 of the "World's Worst Invasive Alien Species”
They are voracious eaters of aquatic life and are quite hardy when it comes to climate and temperatures. Unfortunately they have invaded the lake near our house.
Two positives are that the birds seem to be eating a lot of them because the shoreline is littered with snail houses.
They are also edible. In Thailand the snails are cleaned and parboiled. They are then taken out of their shells, cut, and cleaned in salted water.
After rinsing with water, they are mixed with roasted rice, dried chili pepper, lime juice, and fish sauce, and then eaten.

A nice, but disturbing photo, of these alien looking eggs. Good to hear that the birds are taking care of their existence.

The eggs are attractive for your great capture, but not ideal for the environment. V

Wow, that is amazing. The eggs are a beautiful colour. Good that the birds may be able to help control them. V

I imagine that all those ingredients on anything would be tasty. Try it on Shrimp and call it good.

I wonder how they got into your lake?

Alien Species is a worldwide problem with both plants and animals. There is a lot of logic in the movement to try to Naturalize our local environments. Photos like this are great because the first step has to be to make people aware of the issue.

I wish you success. V
