A mural commmeorating Old Highway 80 which crossed the continent beginning in San Diego and ending in Savannah, Georgia. A distance of about 2,500 miles (4,025km).
Specifically the mural shows the crossing of the Cuyamaca Mountains east of San Diego which still requires traffic to climb from below sea level to well over 4,000 feet.
Only small portions of the Highway exist in California having been superseded by Interstate Highways. It did pass within a few feet of this mural which is at the corner of El Cajon Blvd. and Winona Ave.
