California Ground Squirrel (Otospermophilus Beecheyi)

I can walk with flip flops now, so we drove to La Jolla for a walk and I took my gear for shooting Pelicans in the air with me.
Severe shortage of Pelicans at mid day and also the wrong time of year for them, so I got a photo of this little guy / gal posing instead.
These squirrels are quite numerous along the shore and quite hardy too. It's not unusual for adults to develop an immunity to rattlesnake venom.
Unfortunately people feed them all kinds of human food which is prohibited. I guess people do that because a lot of them will eat out of your hand.
