Five Ways to Kick-Start your Photography
Today 35 members of our photo group met in Balboa Park for a shoot with the following limitations:

1. Fixed focal length - Either use a prime lens (preferably 50mm) or use a zoom lens at one end of the zoom.
2. 1 Roll Rule - Compose each shot carefully, thinking out the composition, subject, focal point, perspective, framing, background, etc.
3. No Live Preview or Review - Everything should be composed through the viewfinder. Do not review your images until after the photo shoot.
4. Manual focus - Use manual focus only.
5. One aperture - Use one aperture only. We have a tendency to shoot with lenses open too often. Try to limit yourself to f/5.6, f/8 or f/11.
Plus we have added this to the original five: 6. Tripod - Take all images using a tripod.

Agree with Herb, I hate tripods too. I have used mine once in 3 years. But I like the idea of your challenge and I love the shot! V

I love the idea Walter. In the "old" days, we did something similar and/or limit ourselves to 1 roll of 24 pics ... for a whole day! You idea works under the same principle, which is to mentally compose and take your pic, BEFORE you actually capture it. I'm sure you all had a great time. BTW, this is a great shot.

Oh, I love your idea for a day out with your photo club! I'd like to see a weekly or monthly Challenge on Pbase with the same parameters!
The columns are ornate and beautiful! Love this in B&W! :)

This is a great idea Walter...in this age of sophisticated camera automation, it's always rewarding to get back to the
basics once in a while to fire those photographic neurons in the brain. Lovely shot and a great choice of lens. V
