Site of the USAF Liberator Air Crash - 1944 - Holme Moss
On the afternoon of 9th October 1944 a USAF Liberator aircraft crashed in bad weather. There still remains some of the debris from the wreckage in situ on the south east side of the Holme Moss summit almost 70 years since the incident. Its visible on the Google satellite view of the area.
There are 4 aircraft crash sites on Holme Moss In addition to the Liberator there are sites where a Swordfish, Hanley Page Hampden ( no visible evidence at this site) and a Sabre jet have crashed.
