behind the fencing, netting and other obstruction lies the old "Original Kings Cross Station" building. Built in 1850 as a temporary structure, while funds were found to buy and build the current Kings cross station, it had a short lifespan as a passenger terminal. Once the new station was complete this was downgraded to a goods shed, though the Midland railway used it for passenger workings when they were kicked out of Kings Cross. the platforms are still in place inside.
The canopy was added in 1888 and became the covered space for handling fish and other goods from up t'north. A canopy was also built on the opposite side to handle potatoes...you can guess where they came from.
