BOC gives Gordon Bennett Balloon Race 2010 a "lift"
Held for the first time in the UK, this oldest of air races was based in Avonmouth on 25th September. BOC supplied the Hydrogen that will enable these balloons to stay airbourne for upto 4 days and nights. Departure was midnight on the 25th September. The outcome can be seen on this site http://www.gordonbennett2010.com.
David Hempleman-Adams who won the 2008 race(hence it is based in the UK this year) was one of 3 GB teams.....my money is on the FRA2 team.(update: I would have lost as they landed short of the Swiss teams remarkable effort!) 3 balloons in flight still some 3 days into race
It is saddening to report that one balloon and the crew have been reported missing over the Adriatic. We can only hope that they are found safe and sound (Wednesday 29/10)
Sadly still no news of the missing balloon or crew. (Thursday 30/10)
There is still no sign of the lost balloon but evidence seems to show a rapid descent which does not bode well (Friday 1/10)
There continues to be no trace of the missing USA team....( Sunday 3/10)
Sad to report that in early December the wreckage of the missing team's balloon was found by a fishing boat off the coast of Italy.
