Not a single Pacer today.
Transpennine Express Class 170 from Huddersfield thru to Hull. Good run, on time.
First time to Hull by train.....good run along the Humber by the bridge.

Hull Station was very acceptable.....reasonably clean and tidy
Quite an impressive structure, even after some of the space has been taken for part of the bus interchange

Again, neat and tidy.....not a bad station at all.
Unlike Huddersfield, they have yet to get round to putting up ticket barriers making access and egress so much nicer.

Time to board the "prepared" Northern Class 158 for "most stations" to Bridlington.
Again on time, clean and tidy, plenty of space and another new stretch of track to tick off.

The destination for Lunch was the "Funny Onion", a refurbished pub just across the road from Bridlington Station.
Speciality of the house...Pies
Steak and Ale and Pulled Pork and Cider were the order for the day......and a Guinness of course
Good food, good value...recommended

No room for a pudding due to the bacon roll in Huddersfield!
And he pinched a pen!
07-MAR-2014
....the Funny Onion was closed there is a decent refreshment facility on the station itself

Is renowned for its summer flower displays but in early march the station lacked that colourful display. None the less, apart from the over bridge and its pigeon problems, the station was OK
07-MAR-2014
This caught the eye with its original barriers by the ticket office windows

The station clearly was a busy place in the 50's and 60's with holiday specials. Lots of old carriage sidings remain and the signalling set up harps back to the glory days of yore.
07-MAR-2014
To complete the loop and continue on new track we returned to Huddersfield via Scarborough.
Passing along the was the old junction for Butlin's Holiday Camp at Filey, another buzzing place in the 50s and 60s until the traffic dropped off and the lines lifted. Some evidence of the station still remains.....old platforms and fittings....but the holiday camp has long since gone

A bit sad but clean and tidy. Such an impressive station gets an Hourly TPEx to Liverpool and an infrequent service down to Hull and South Yorkshire...surely scope for a shuttle to York in between the TPEx service.
