Eternal icon of imperial Rome, and of modern Italy, the ruins of the Flavian Amphitheater, built by early Roman Emperor Vespasian, still awe. The name Colosseum purportedly comes from a colossal statue of Nero that stood outside the site, which was then transformed into a state of helios, the sun god, reputedly a goodly 100 feet tall.
