Mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut

Located in front of Karnak temple on the west bank of the Nile river, the temple of Queen Hatshepsut amazes as much for its beautiful design as for its breathtaking surrounding. Hatshepsut co-ruled as a king of the New Kingdom with Thutmose III between 1473 and 1458 B.C.

More recently this site --also known as Deir el-Bahri-- sadly made it into the news in 1997 when 63 people were killed by Islamic terrorists in the so-called Luxor massacre.
