Mexico City

As many of you know I worked as a gardener/keeper at the San Diego Zoo for 16 years(1992-2008).
With 11 years in Gorilla Tropics before moving to Sunbear Forest I was involved with numerous in house exhibit remodel projects
as well as cutting and providing "browse" to the animals (Browse is plant material used for diet and enrichment).

In November 2007 I had an idea to contact the Zoologico Chapultepec in Mexico City to see if they would be interested in working together,
they were very interested in collaborating.
So in February 2008, after the initial email contacts, I traveled to Mexico City and meet with the director.

In June 2008 I returned and spent two weeks volunteering working with their nutritionist and Bioethics Dept. and we put together a Browse program.
As a follow up I went back for an additional 2 weeks in Nov. 2008.
This program has helped to bring together and focus the efforts of a number of individuals at the zoo,
while at the same time benefiting the animals by providing improved nutrition as well as environmental enrichment.
