St John the Evangelist Church in Coolhurst is a grey stone block building that looks strangely out of place with its setting. The small parish church is sometimes known as the ‘forest church’ and was built by the Victorians to serve a small community that once lived in the village near to Horsham, now a small hamlet....an area really. The church was consecrated in 1839. It has a rather eery atmosphere in its isolated, woodland setting, and some paranormal occurrences have been reported in the area.
Superb photos here, Lancing College, and Horsham (that's where I looked!) I've had an old unidentified photo of "forest church" in my grandfather's pics, so now I know its identity.
thanks for posting.
