Seefeld is in the Tyrol about 11 miles northwest of Innsbruck. It is one of the most popular Tyrolean tourist resorts, especially for skiing in winter, but also for walking in the summer.
Seefeld was first mentioned in records in the 11th century and was a farming village for centuries. Tourism here began in the early 20th century, then grew rapidly from the 1960s onwards when it became an important centre for cross-country skiing. At both the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics the Nordic events were held in Seefeld.
