Sheffield Park Gardens

East Sussex

Sheffield Park lays just inside East Sussex, in the Weald, between Haywards Heath and Uckfield. It was part of an estate, mentioned in the Domesday Book, which developed over the centuries until in the 1700s its owner employed Capability Brown to landscape the gardens, which included four lakes still existing today. A collection of exotic and native trees and shrubs have been subsequently planted and grown here. It was named after the Barons & Earls of Sheffield who resided there from the late 18th to early 20th centuries. It is now owned and managed by the National Trust. Its grand gothic country house remains in private ownership.
