THE NAIL PILLAR

Austria

By the side of Reutte's Council Offices.
Nail Men were a form of fundraising for members of the German and Austrian armed forces and their dependents in World War I. They were wooden statues, often of knights in armour and local coats of arms, into which nails were driven in exchange for donations. This one dates from 1917.
