The Mermaid, a listed Grade II building in Portmeirion village, was originally a gardener's shelter in the mid-19th century. By 1925, when the development of the present fairytale village began, it had become very dilapidated and surrounded by an overgrown wilderness. It was completely renovated, including the addition of the ironwork porch, and it is now let as self-catering holiday accommodation.
