The rear of the Our Lady of England Priory viewed from St Mary's Church.
The priory is home to Roman Catholic priests belonging to a Community of Norbertine Canons who were founded in France in 1121. In the 19th century the French government evicted them from their monastery and the canons had to seek refuge elsewhere. In 1879 the Lord of the Manor of Storrington, the Duke of Norfolk, invited them to build a monastery there, and the canons decided to dedicate their new home to Our Lady of England.
