The town hall consists of two buildings. The older white one is gothic. It dates from 1250 served as the seat of government for the city-state during the medieval ages. Remarkable is its tower that does not have a foundation of its own but was just built up from the top of the gable of the building. Attached in front is the Renaissance building which dates from 1572.
