Henfield - West Sussex view map

The Tanyard Field is 4 acres of grassland with this pond at one end. In the 17th century a thriving industry existed here, employing a great number of men from the village. It was one of the chief centres for tanning. All that exists today is a restored barn and a few foundations of the long gone workshops. Nearby Pinch Nose Green gives a permanent reminder of a by-gone smelly industry!
