This 14th century Church of Our Lady has parts that date from the original chapel of 1225. Damme's prosperity as a major port had ended in the 16th century when the sea inlet which the canal to Damme was linked to became silted up, and when this large church partially collapsed in 1725 the town could not afford to repair it.
