I visited the Peruvian Amazon Basin for 5 days through the Tambopata Research Center (TRC). A group of us stayed at their hotel just a couple hours down the Rio Tambopata from the village of Puerto Maldonado. The next 3 nights were at TRC, 5 hours further down river. Rainforest Expeditions (rainfore@amauta.rcp.net.pe) runs them both, where the famous Colpa salt lick is. You will see amazing macaws, other birds and tons of wildlife and bugs here. I highly recommend going, though it's a bit of a journey. Lots of professional photographers and wildlife research scientists are there.
