Pan is the ancient Greek god of nature, shepherds, the wild, and rustic music, known for his half-man, half-goat appearance and his invention of the panpipes. His Roman equivalent is Faunus, and he is often depicted as a lecherous, lustful figure who chases nymphs like Syrinx. His worship was primarily rural, with shepherds and hunters being his most devoted followers, and his name is the origin of the modern word "panic".
