This was a favorite spot for me and my friends in the late 40's. I have so many happy memories there. We lived in Ozone Park, L.I., N.Y. and took the Long Island Train to get there.

Alida?
I noticed an error in the caption for your photo of Lake Ronkonkoma (image 57398950) when I was searching to use one for my new website about kettle lakes. Here's your text: Lake Ronkonkoma
Ronkonkoma, Long Island, NY
Lake Ronkonkoma is actually a "kettle hole."
What is a kettle hole?
It is a hole that was carved into the earth by a glacier.
This happened on Long Island, long, long ago.
In some spots the lake is 80 feet deep!
Nikon D70 ,Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom
1/320s f/10.0 at 18.0mm full exif
It is a kettle, but not glacier carved. Its a meltdown depression. May I have permission to use your photo in exchange for a credit on a website that I hope will get a fair bit of traffic? Got to kettle.uconn.edu, link to lakes, link to notable dozen, link to ronkonkama.

I remember my uncle taking me to the lake often to swim when I was a child. there is an interesting story that goes with the lake concerning an indian princess. Good memories once again.
