These are the results of my comparison of these lenses!
For a lens costing 2.5 times the Sigma, I was a little surprised to see the results of the Canon (on this sample):
The Sigma is the clear winner for the top left, top right (being portrait top equates to "RIGHT"
The Sigma is the clear winner for the bottom right (being portrait bottom equates to "LEFT"
The Canon is a marginal winner in the centre shots of the CDs and the Harmonica
thanks for the good comparison , L series are related to color correction , which shows as well here ,

Thanks for posting these.
I just bought this lens and I was curious to see how it stands up.
I don't agree with your analysis of your own photos though.
You can see that the canon is sharper and cleaner is all the shots you took.
Top left, look at the writing on the QUEEN book.
Top right, again the writing on the sigma is almost unreadable whereas the canon is far sharper.
The very bottom crops, looks at the detail around the brass screw on the left. Contrast and sharpness is wayyy better on the Canon.
thanks for posting this info, I was also a bit dissapointed with my 25-105 L, how do you find the sigma 17-70 performs against the Canon 17-55 IS (is it worth spending $1000 ?).
