This battery room is part of the a power system for a rural property not connected to the power grid. The batteries are lead acid. The equipment on the wall includes an inverter and the charging controller which determines whether the batteries charge from a roof mounted wind turbine or the photovoltaic cells also on the roof. The batteries need very little maintenance - just a distilled water top about once per month.
