Definition B: A posted command, warning or direction.

B4: Road Markings are letters, numbers and symbols painted on roads to be seen by road users and pedestrians. Road Markings follow a system that is described in detail in such guidebooks as A Review of Road Marking Legislation and Practice. Due to damage and maintenance of roads, occasionally certain parts of the Road Markings need to be updated and repaired. All these examples show how road markings have been slightly modified from their original form. The first five examples are all from London, showing how the original word has been changed. A large descender has been added on many of the letter G’s in the centre of London. There is no record of this in the Road Marking Legislation booklet; one can only assume that it has been modified to improve legibility. The other five examples show letters being painted and the processes involved, including the last example showing the original message being sprayed in black paint to hide it.
