Slum, Bandra

I walked into the slum to have a look and then heard drums and followed the sound. A bunch of kids had some drums and they were pounding the crap out of them. It was an amazing noise, really loud, great rhythms. (All of my photos of the drummers were useless so none are here). The venue was a garbage-covered mound: turd-strewn, next to a gruesomely dirty stream. As I was walking home I had the feeling that something kept brushing my leg, so I looked down and indeed something was. The good news: it was a bit of plastic string. The bad news: it was attached to my shoe by a lump of shit. You win some, you lose some.

This is such a powerful image, the blue of the tarpaulin and the grey of the sky, and it is such a contrast because your work is normally in black and white, I actually really prefer this in colour having imagined it in black and white.
