This man was extremely drunk in the late afternoon. He invited me to take some photos of his tattoos and his many scars (a lot of which, for instance those on his arms, looked self-inflicted to me. They were shallow and repetitive and layered upon one another. Those on his abdomen appeared deeper and perhaps more serious). He then demanded money and became threatening. Translation was provided by a local taxi driver, who found the whole thing extremely amusing. Having taken many photographs of this man I didn't object to giving him some cash.

His - even drunker - friend then demanded money. I hadn't taken any photographs of him and said no. He became aggressive but not impressively so: at one point he failed even to negotiate the three steps from the street to the tea shop where I was sitting, sliding off the side of the steps and smacking his chin on the raised stone floor. After trying but failing to blame me for that he staggered around in diminishing circles in the street and departed temporarily. He returned later and was belligerent but the man running the tea shop (on the right here) and various other people living by the street were kind enough to tell him to leave me alone. He took more notice of them than he did of my own suggestion that he back off.
