Cathédrale Saint-Etienne*, AUXERRE, Burgundy

The present Cathedral was commenced in 1215 and the choir, a Gothic masterpiece, was completed about 1235, together with its stained glass. The transepts came next and the Nave and chapels were completed by about 1400. Finally, the North tower was achieved in 1525. The crypt from an earlier Cathedral dates back to about 1030. The Nave vaulting reaches 34 metres (111 feet).
