A Cathedral unique in style, resembling a cross between a medieval fortress and a municipal bus depot, Albi has one of the most breath-taking and extraordinary interiors. The cathedral was built to reinforce the catholic faith in the area following the war crushing the Cathar movement, often known as the "Albigensian Crusade". Built to dominate the town and impress by its military appearance, it is over 40 metres high and 113.5 metres long and has only a nave and choir - no aisles or transepts. The bell tower is 78 metres high.

Commenced in 1282, it was consecrated 200 years later.
