SP/SSW GP60s

The SP units are recently released Walthers/Proto. The SSW are P2K units.

SSW 9642
SSW 9642 is a P2K unit. Details replaced are the snowplow (DW -206) and small sinclair antenna on the small platform with a DW metal one (as opposed to the stock part). Added parts are the DW fuel tank bracket (all four units), DW knuckle holder boxes (and knuckles) on the sideframes on conductor's side, DW speed recorder, DW digital fuel boxes, round fuel dial (engineer's side) from DA fuel filler and DW beacon and beacon platform. Paint modification required painting of all fans which were unpainted from the factory -- dynamic brake fan received lark dark gray, radiator fans received semi-gloss black. Note one radiator fan was painted a light primer gray as many radiator fans were replaced beginning in 1994. Sideframes were detailed and received lark dark gray (there were also unpainted from the factory). Weathered with airbrush I initially used a very thin light gray spray to lighten both SSW units -- about 12 coats for 9642 and 8 coats for 9663 because I knew the future weathering would darken them back up. The exhaust is much heavier than the SP units (black with a small amount of brown) and underframe with a MM skin tone brown and Floquil Mud, also heavier than the SP units. Air filter intake grills and radiator grills airbrushed with a dark gray. Note that all four units received AIM dark gray powders on the walkway -- lightly applied on the SP units. 9642 also received some AIM light brown powder on the walkway (see detail photo). I then used a combo of the gray and lt brown on the sides of 9642 all the way around. Top of the nose received some dark gray powder as well on both SSW units.

SSW 9663
SSW 9663 is a P2K unit. Detailed the same as 9642. Weathered slightly less than 9642 -- no light brown weathering powder. All Radiator fans are semi-gloss black.

SP 9730
SP 9730 is a Walthers/Proto unit. Details replaced are the snowplow (DW -206), small sinclair antenna on the small platform with some .030 styrene rod, and horns with a PSC part I've had in my parts bin for decades. Added parts are the DW -196 spare knuckles on the sideframes on conductor's side and various fills and dials on the fuel tank -- using MU Receptacles from DA. Paint modification required painting of the dynamic brake fan sides from black to lark dark gray and the sideframes to the same color. Weathered with airbrush for exhaust (black with a small amount of brown) and underframe with a MM skin tone brown and Floquil Mud. Air filter intake grills and radiator grills airbrushed with a combo of black and dark gray.

SP 9750
SP 9750 is a Walthers/Proto unit. Detailing and weathering was done similarly to SP 9730. My goal was to keep these two units "fresher" than the SSW units as their delivery date is much closer to the dates that I model (1992-1996).
