These are a pair of ScaleTrains ATSF Dash-9s. Steps to complete were:
* Redid the grab irons. Basically the sides/drops of each grab are the color of the surface to which they are mounted. I used Testors FX Silver, Polly Scale ATSF Red and Model Master Insignia Yellow.
* painted all grills. I mask off the grills - sometimes one at a time, and spray a custom mix of black with a hint of brown. However, for the dynamic brake intakes (behind cab, engineer’s side) I did those by hand in order to emphasize the vertical lines in the grills.
* weathered the exhaust stack area
* used Tamiya Black Panel Liner to darken grills of air conditioner intake and exhaust
* changed out couplers to Kadee 158s (painted a med/dk brown, painted trip pin black, dry brushed dark brown on coupler)
* added safety decals to all four step wells
* masked windows (not shown)
* used a microbrush to paint wheels dark brown so I don't have to remove sideframes (not shown)
* dark gray weathering powder on walkways and steps
* powder then sealed with a light coat of flat
* then airbrushed light coats of mud and earth to underframe, including a "bow wave" below the operating cab and additional applications to pilots/plow.
* masking on windows and headlights/ditchlights removed
