San Apollinare Nuovo's decoration runs down the nave walls of the church and depicts a procession of saints and apostles. The right procession terminates near the altar with Christ on his throne.
This is the start of the right wall processional; the processional members are leaving the Theodoric palace (which is right down the street from the church).
Look carefully at the palace's third column from the left; you'll see a "slash" across it in the middle of its length. That is a hand and an arm; at one time this section of the mosaic was repaired/retouched and the figure that was in the doorway was removed. Well, all but his/her arm and hand.
