It fell over 8 or 9 years ago but this is the tree the members of U2 were photographed in front of for their 1987 "The Joshua Tree" album. That square shape on the right is a bronze plaque mounted on a concrete platform, about 1 sq yard (1 square meter) in size. It asks "Have you found what you're looking for?" a reference to a song on The Joshua Tree.

Located about 0.2 miles (300 meters) south of CA Hwy 190 near the Death Valley National Park entrance at N36 19.857 lat W117 44.715 long.
