Governors camps are the only luxury Safari Camps located directly in the Prime game viewing area of the Masai Mara and are directly on the route of The Great Wildebeest Migration. The Head of the BBC Natural History Unit, which film the Big Cat Diaries from Governors Camp, described the area as, 'The prime wild life real estate in the World'
The camp set in woodland, nestles the Mara River and contains 38 tents, either having views of the Mara River or uninterupted views across the plains. It was founded in 1972 on the site where the Colonial Governors of Kenya used to make camp. The camp is unfenced allowing all animals to pass through. It was voted fourth in the Top 10 Hotels in the World in 1988.
