Contemporary bluegrass pioneer Sam Bush and his band returned to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.'s Big Room, in Chico, Calif., on Feb. 28, 2011. Bush, originally from Kentucky, was schooled as a bluegrass purist but his legend was forever established as a founding member of New Grass Revival in the early 1970s (along with Bela Fleck, John Cowan, and others). An amazing instrumentalist, Bush, mostly on mandolin and a bit on fiddle, led his band at the Big Room in a rousing set that featured several cuts from his current CD, "Circles Around Me," as well as ballads, foot-stompers, and jazzy, rocking, bluegrass selections from his enormous catalog of material.
