*** Update - Ron passed away on Nov. 20, 2010 at the age of 70. My thoughts are with Sarah and the rest of her family. *** This gallery is from "Play One for Ron" concert fundraiser for Ron Myles, a gentle fellow recently diagnosed with liver cancer. This concert was in his honor, to help raise funds for medical expenses. The afternoon event featured two of Chico's prominent jazz ensembles, The Groove Diggers and Laydiblues, both of which feature beguiling-voiced (and Ron's daughter) Sarah Myles Spencer. The event also featured a silent auction, raffles and live portrait paintings. Ron Myles, who Sarah calls, "one of Chico's greatest jazz fans," lived in New York back in the '50s, where he rubbed elbows with the jazz legends of the day, including Thelonius Monk, Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane.
