Ozomatli, a boisterous, joyful cast of characters out of Los Angeles, kicked off the 2010 Chico World Music Festival in Laxson Auditorium, on the Cal State, Chico, campus on Sept. 17. One of the band's bios accurately called Ozomatli a large band "who've managed to tweak people's consciousness with their highly politicized amalgamation of hip-hop, salsa, ska, funk and jazz." The normally staid Laxson Auditorium, at which those wishing to dance are typically required to do so in the aisles at far left and far right of the floor, succumbed to Ozomatli's fervent fan-base and the space in front of the front row turned into a celebratory dance party.
