Ocean Science Summit, Monterey, CA, May 2008

Photos from the Ocean Science Summit held in Monterey, California, in late May 2008. The meeting was sponsored by MBARI - the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute - and several other organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science. It brought together scientists, policymakers, and others concerned with the health and future of the oceans and the interactions between the oceans and global climate. The Summit involved hands-on experiences in marine research, including a cruise on a research vessel which had a close encounter with a humpback whale.
