Remodeling Our Master Bathroom: October 2005 - January 2006

The master bath in our 17-year old house was not in bad shape, but it had a tiny, claustrophobia-inducing shower stall that we used every day and a huge Jacuzzi that we never used. There was nothing wrong with the Jacuzzi; it was just noisy and none of us found it very pleasant or relaxing. After living with this arrangement for 5½ years, we decided to bite the (multi-thousand dollar) bullet and have it redone in a more modern, functional manner with a linen closet in place of the former shower stall and a large, glass-enclosed shower in place of the Jacuzzi. The work started on October 24. The contractor estimated 22-25 workdays and that's just about what it took. It was substantially complete by the beginning of December and we have been using it and enjoying the shower. The work is of high quality and the contractor met both the schedule and the budget.

Hy, amazing job , and the remodeling industry has seen a rise with the economic recession.More people prefer to remodel instead of buying a new house , and with a bit of cabinet refacing and some new quality tile which you yourself can put in with some basic instructions , you will have a new bathroom in a week or less.

Hello - I too am curious as to the cost to convert the tub area to a tiled shower. Any chance you know the breakdown for that? Looks wonderful. Are those sliding doors or a fixed panel with a swinging door? Love your color choice.

Beatiful looking work!! How did you affix the tile backer to the bench front and seat? I looked at those pre-formed foam benches. Look easy but a real budget buster.

Excellent shower and tile work. Exactly what my wife and I have been trying to envision with our upcoming remodel. Could you please tell me what the budjet was for this project so I have a good starting point to negotiate with our contractor.

Would you have any idea what the cost would be to do the shower only? I would
like to have our tub taken out and replaced with a shower similar to yours-it is very
nice. Exactly what I have been wanting. Maybe a slight bit smaller. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Your bathroom looks great. We are undergoing a similar re-model of our master bath. Curious if you had to order a custom shower door and the glass piece to sit on top of your shower bench. We have a similar set-up, and I'm not sure where to start.. I'd be interested on who you ordered your shower glass from...

This looks like a formidable project. I am also looking to remodel 2-3 bathrooms in my house, depending on the final cost. Do you mind my asking what is/was the total cost of this remodel? If you contracted any of the work, did you accept a bid based ona flat rate or an hourly rate – what are your thoughts? Also, did you consider any other shower styles? I am torn between a tiled shower such as yours vs. a shower module. I like the appearance of the tiles more than the modules, but I like the ease of cleaning of the modules. Is there anything that forced your decision? Tiling a shower as large as yours may actually be more economical than purchasing a very nice shower module to fit that large of a space. I’ve priced some of the modules, but have not yet started pricing a tiled shower such as yours. Okay, good luck with the rest of the project – looks great so far!
