From Safaga, we sailed into the Gulf of Suez and half way up almost relaxed as we could anticipate arriving in Port Suez the next day. Wrong! In the middle of the night the wind went from 15 kts on our stern to 40 kts on the nose. We saw on the chart that immediately to our port on the Egyptian coast there was a sand spit we could hide behind until the wind shifted. Under radar and with another boat we made our way into the anchorage behind the sand spit.
