The Solomon Islanders are well known for heir carvings. We bought this carving of a war canoe from this carver. We also traded a gallon of bottom paint for an absolutely beautiful tan salad bowl inlaid with a dark wood.
The name of the carver holding the war canoe is Jarius Salato from Telina Village, Marovo Lagoon. It's really interesting rewinding back to some 20 years ago and see how people and places have gone through so much changes. Marovo Lagoon is not so beautiful as it was before the loggers came and destroyed the natural environment.
