A few days after we had been accepted in the village, we watched as big canoes full of women came to the village. We found out that all the women in the neighboring villages along with those of Korlevu were putting on a feast honoring the church elders from the mainland. The chief invited us to attend as their honored guests. At the dinner which was in the community center, everyone sat cross-legged in a circle on pandamus mats and we sat on the chief’s right hand side while the Church elders sat on his left.
